Qulla Yarn and The Mirasol Project

With one of the longest standing and richest heritages of textile artistry, local Peruvian farmers and craftspeople have fine-tuned fibres over generations. This collection highlights sustainable and natural fibres harvested from the highlands of Peru.  By purchasing the Mirasol Yarn Collection you are supporting the shepherds and their families ensuring the continuation of this tradition.

Qulla Yarn is a luxurious blend of 90% Merino Wool and 10% Mulberry Silk.  This premier superfine yarn can be used for hand knitting, crochet or in weaving as weft.  This blend handles like a light fingering weight yarn.

- 350m/ 382 yards
- 100 gm/ 3.5 oz skein.

This yarn has beautiful drape and would be excellent for shawl and lace knitting, it will also hold its structure well and its soft handle would be lovely for a baby set or adults' sweater.

The Mirasol Project, named after a little girl who helped tend a herd of alpaca near Lake Titicaca, was set up in 2006 by the Michell family. It aims to raise enough money through the sale of Mirasol yarns and wool to start to combat the extreme poverty these children face and help provide them with better futures. A portion of every purchase is dedicated directly to funding a school in the remote area of Munani in the region of Puno to educate the children of the shepherds.

This is a wool product and will felt. Hand wash gently with Eucalan or Unicorn Fibre Wash and Rinse. See the Woolly Washing section of my shop for these products.

Please see the Crafty Yarn Council Website to understand how the weight of this yarn has been classified.
