Breaking down the mystery, Unbraided gives you a visual guide to how 6 different, but basic spinning techniques work up. Rachel and Katrina hope to help you over come the fear and dive right into spinning instead of stashing.
”The idea for this book started when Rachel and Catrina (Reading) were having a conversation about colours and hand-painted fibre and how great it would be if there were a reference type book, similar to a ‘learning atlas’ for how to spin colour. Both Catrina and Rachel have careers in the field of science, but for those not in the know, think of a series of microscope slides printed one after the other in a column with a simple explanation of what one is seeing in the slide, that is essentially what a learning atlas is. Rachel then reached out to Katrina (Stewart), who happens to be a professional photographer and an enthusiastic handspinner, about collaborating to bring this book to fruition. And so the journey began.” - Crafty Jak’s Website
Rachel Smith and Katrina Stewart are the authors of this beautiful book that helps the beginner spinner get over those first moments of anxiety when starting to learn the craft.
“We are Judi and Katrina, aka JAK, a mother and daughter team who started Crafty JAK’s as a way to share some of the variety of things we love to create. This journey started off by designing and knitting photography props for the professional photography industry. […] Katrina is our resident fibre expert, dyer and creative force behind our ever changing selection of products. She loves to play with colour and is passionate about sharing her knowledge with others. She draws much of her inspiration from the natural beauty that surrounds us on the Southwest coast of Canada.” - Crafty Jak’s Website
